Steff,
as she likes to be called, may be out-numbered by the
men at the Institute, but she can hold her own when it
comes to hunting. She started hunting when she was nine
years old, mostly for duck, but also for deer. She
really enjoyed duck hunts and has wonderful memories of
going hunting with her father to Stuttgart, Arkansas
where she killed her first mallard when she was ten
years old. The young girl was formally initiated in a
hunting ceremony by her father and the other hunters. It
was, she says, a landmark moment in her life.
As a working mother of
two, she no longer hunts but she and her husband enjoy managing their own
property and wildlife with the use of feed and supplements.
A
country girl and nature lover all her life, Steff enjoys working at the
Institute and especially likes looking out the window to see deer grazing
the clover and bass jumping in a nearby pond. It makes her feel good to
know that what she does helps many hunters and land managers in a direct
and/or indirect way.
