Like
his younger brother Steve, Wilson has always accepted
hunting and fishing as a part of everyday life in the
Scott household.The
first hunting experience he remembers was hunting for
squirrel with his grandfather and carrying a single-shot
.22 rifle.He
also remembers the squirrel being “tough as leather”
despite the cooking expertise of his grandmother.
His
very first deer hunting trip ―
an early morning expedition ―
was his most memorable.A nice buck came within 30 yards of where he had
set up.A
family friend had the buck in his sights when he spotted
the young hunter sound asleep.
As
the owner and manager of a highly popular outdoor store in Montgomery,
Wilson is very much in tune with Institute customers. He quickly found out during his retail career that hunters were a
serious group of folks when it came to their sport.Customer satisfaction was paramount and he brings that same
understanding to the Institute.With
his background in retail and with a business marketing degree from Auburn
University, Wilson was well qualified to come to the Institute as Vice
President of Operations and chief “number cruncher” after he sold his
retail business. At his father’s invitation he financially invested in the
company and became a part owner in 1990.
Wilson
especially enjoys dealing with the customers and the salesmen in the
industry. He notes “Customers are always in a good mood.It seems that no matter what is going on in their personal life,
when they start talking about hunting, they just forget their problems.”
