No-Plow Helps Teenager Bag First Buck
I have been hunting for 5 years now, and finally this past fall, I
harvested my first buck ever (archery). This buck came into a one-acre
No-Plow field just before dark on Nov. 10 last year. This was my first
year using Imperial Products, and I saw a tremendous increase in
wildlife activity on our 40-acre parcel.
A friend and I cleared a small one-acre odd-shaped field in the middle
of our parcel, and then used Round Up on all the weeds. With limited
availability for a tractor we used a home rototiller to work up the
land. After a couple of days we planted – simple as that.
The area I hunt is mostly hardwoods with some apple trees that I
planted a couple years ago. No nice bucks like this one have been
taken from these woods in many years.
While going to school, I was able to hunt almost every evening. I
hardly went a night without seeing a deer in the food plot. On the
evening I shot this buck, I watched this buck out of range what seemed
like hours. Finally, at last light the buck finally came into range.
I know this buck isn't a monster, but it’s a true trophy to me. Not
only is the deer hunting better but I see many more turkeys and other
wildlife in the area. I just wanted to thank everyone at the Whitetail
Institute for making this trophy possible.
By the way, this spring we planted three acres of Imperial Clover, and
so far it’s growing well.
