Q. HOW LONG WILL EXTREME LAST?
A. Extreme can last up to 5 years without replanting. Some research has shown much longer stand life. Lifespan will be determined by weather, soil fertility and weed control.
Q. IS EXTREME BETTER THAN IMPERIAL CLOVER AND ALFA-RACK?
A. Extreme was designed to fill a niche that our research identified. Imperial Clover and Alfa-Rack are designed to be planted in 6.5 pH soils with a minimum annual rainfall of 30”. Extreme can thrive in lower pH soils and requires a minimum of only 15 inches of annual rainfall. Ideal pH for optimum production and usage is between 6.0-7.0.
Q. SHOULD I PLANT IMPERIAL CLOVER OR EXTREME?
A. You need to soil test to determine soil fertility and pH. Then decide if the soil gets and holds enough moisture to support Imperial Clover. If either pH or moisture falls below the ideal levels for Imperial Clover then Extreme is your answer.
Q. HOW DO I PLANT EXTREME?
A. Soil test for a forb planting. Follow the recommendations for any lime and fertilizer additions. Add the recommended amounts of lime and fertilizer and thoroughly disc them into the soil. Level the area with a drag or cultipacker. Broadcast the seed. Cultipack the area after spreading the seed. Do not drag the area or the seed may get too deep to grow.
Q. IS pH IMPORTANT?
A. As with most perennials, always strive for the pH to be 6.5 to 7. But in cases where the pH is lower, Extreme will do well. The advantage of raising the pH for an Extreme planting is to sweeten the taste of the plants to get even better performance and usage by the animals. With higher pH levels the plants can establish much quicker.
Q. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF ADDING EXTREME TO MY EXISTING PLANTINGS?
A. Extreme allows you the opportunity to plant areas that don’t normally produce perennial crops, with a top-quality deer attracting forage. Extreme is highly attractive to your deer and sometimes these difficult areas can be some of your best plots for hunting. It also adds diversity/variety to your food plot offerings.
Q. HOW MUCH AREA WILL 56 POUNDS PLANT?
A. 56 pounds of Extreme will plant up to 2 ½ acres. (22.4 pounds per acre) We also have 28 and 5.6 pound bags available.
Q. IS EXTREME DROUGHT RESISTANT?
A. As with any crop, nothing is completely drought proof but it is the most drought resistant high quality forage we have found. It has been tested in Florida, Texas and the sandy upper peninsula of Michigan with great results. Good results were even achieved in Nevada where annual rainfalls were around 16”. Extreme requires moisture to establish. Follow the planting time recommendations to increase the odds of sufficient moisture at the time of establishment.
